Before you start: Thanks to a free floating forend design, the Henry Long Ranger and Long Ranger Express is one of the easiest lever guns on which to install a handguard.
You will need:
- A 5/32” hex driver bit (supplied with your handguard).
- A bit driver. This can be a screwdriver type or ratchet–do not use power tools.
- A long extension(s) with about 8” of reach.
- A #2 phillips screwdriver.
UNLOAD AND CLEAR YOUR RIFLE. Drop the mag and triple check to make sure the chamber is empty. You will be working at the dangerous end of the gun.
- Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw securing the forend cap to the forend. Remove the cap.
- Use the supplied 5/32” hex driver to remove the long bolt securing the forend to the receiver stud. Slide the wood forend forward off the stud.
- Remove the two washers from the factory mount bolt and install them onto the supplied 10-32 x ½” bolt supplied. The split washer goes directly under the head of the bolt.
- Slide your new RPP handguard over the long receiver stud and fit the flange of the guard into the receiver recess.
- Using the supplied 5/32” bit driver and your long extension, guide the ½” mounting bolt through the front of the handguard and into the hole in the mounting dam. Thread the bolt into the mounting stud and tighten to 18in/lbs. If you do not have a torque driver, just go easy. You don’t need any more torque than can be generated with a screwdriver handle.
- Please be aware that RPP does not warranty our parts or your rifle’s parts against excessive torque damage.
- Check to make sure that the handguard is fully seated in the receiver flange and that it has mounted securely with no movement after tightening. Because of the free float mount (done for the sake of accuracy), there will be some side-to-side flex of the handguard in relation to the barrel. This is normal and not detrimental to function or accuracy.
