How to install a replacement butt plate on the Ranger Point modstock:
- Peel the recoil pad off of the butt of your modstock and set it aside.
- Remove the two rear 1/4-28 pivot screws attaching the butt plate to the upper and lower struts. With the stock right side down, pull the butt plate away from the struts, taking care not to lose the belleville washers nested in the pivot tabs of the butt.
- Remove the washers (a little prying with a blade might be necessary in some cases) and place them in their races in the new butt plate.
- Push the new butt plate into the strut slots, aligning the screw holes, and install the pivot screws.
- Check your cheek weld on the comb of the stock. If necessary, loosen all four pivot screws and adjust to suit, then retighten the pivot screws.
- Install the included set screws into the back of the new butt plate in their respective holes (not the holes on the centerline of the plate). Drive them in until each makes light contact with the strut, then snug them evenly. It is not necessary to use a lot of torque.
- Spoon the recoil pad onto the back of the new butt plate. You’re done!
If you need to adjust your comb height for a different sight setup in the future, don’t forget to loosen the set screws in the butt along with the pivot screws.
